Usually a collision of this kind would bring the police to the scene, but in this instance, a Brampton truck driver side-swept an OPP cruiser on Highway 401 near London and injuring the police officer inside the vehicle.

Middlesex County OPP say the officer suffered minor injuries when a transport truck side-swiped a cruiser on eastbound Highway 401 around 4 p.m. Saturday, September 30.

Parminder Barn, 37, of Brampton, has been charged with careless driving and failing to move over for a stopped emergency vehicle.

The officer, who was conducting a traffic stop on an unlicensed driver and was sitting inside the cruiser at the time, was taken to hospital for treatment.

“Significant” damage was done to the cruiser, according to the OPP. The truck pulled over after the collision.

Drivers approaching emergency vehicles or tow trucks that are stopped with emergency lights flashing must slow down, use caution and move over to leave at least one lane between their vehicle and the emergency vehicle/tow truck.

Fines range from $400 to $2,000 and three demerit points.

In another road incident involving yet another unnamed Brampton truck driver, the OPP announced they were investigating the trucker who drove the wrong way on Highway 401 near Gananoque in the wee hours of the morning Sept. 28.

Leeds OPP officers were called around 12:40 a.m. about an eastbound transport truck travelling in the westbound lanes of the highway.

Responding officers found the truck stopped on the shoulder of the highway. The 25-year-old driver told police he had fallen asleep.

This points to a serious problem that should be investigated because lives are at stake. – CINEWS
